Buy-side firms face mounting challenges as markets grow more complex and fast-paced. JPMorgan’s Marie Linehan says trading desks must react quicker and in real time to global headlines while managing fragmented data across siloed systems.
By unifying research, data, execution, and reporting within a single customizable platform, she says, can enable traders to move more seamlessly from strategy to execution.
JP Morgan’s Markets platform is designed to use behavioural insights and artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver tailored, context-rich data and content in real time across web, desktop, and mobile.
Looking ahead, JPMorgan plans to expand its use of large language models and machine learning to power more intelligent, modular workflows from signal to settlement.

Jo Gallagher What are the big workflow and data challenges that buy sides are facing today?
Marie Linehan So buy-side firms are operating in an increasingly complex market with faster decision-making required. Data is fragmented across systems and workflows are often siloed across multiple different applications. We are also reacting more real time to global headlines such as macroeconomic data, geopolitical risk and central bank policy. So traders really need instant access to actionable context-rich data. Whether they’re in the office or on the move. And it’s not just about access, it’s about clarity. They need the ability to interact with data in a real-time way that helps them to make informed trading decisions. At JPMorgan, we’re helping our clients go from insights to action faster. We’re reducing friction, enhancing visibility, and ultimately helping create alpha.
Jo Gallagher And so how can multi-asset teams better integrate these kind of workflows across the trade lifecycle and then stream those insights to the front office?
Marie Linehan One of the big challenges I think buy sides face is the multiple different systems that they have to deal with. You know, if you need access to research, content, data, execution or reporting, these often sit across multiple different systems and they really shouldn’t. With JP Morgan Markets, we’re bringing all of that together in one single customized bank platform. So traders can access our data, they can access commentary from our desk execution to post-trade. All together in one workflow. With some of our analytic tools such as data query, traders now have access to over 650 different data sets and 150 million plus time series, which really enables them to make quick informed decisions. And it’s not just about the data, it’s how we deliver it. We’ve really enhanced the platform as well to bring together in an automated way, our content across research, our sales desks and our trading desks. We tag content intelligently, and it’s contextually mapped to client’s interests. This is then distributed over multiple channels, whether that’s web, desktop, mobile, so clients and traders can manage on the go. It enables us to integrate with that trader workflow so they see the right insights at the right time in the channel that they want to be in.
Jo Gallagher And so how can these insights be applied to the trader’s workflow?
Marie Linehan With JP Morgan Markets, we are embedding into the trader’s daily workflow routine. So whether that’s portfolio construction with Vida to execution analytics via our execute tool. Traders can go from strategy to execution without leaving the platform. If we take a market movement event as an example, a client can assess risk in Vida. They can monitor real-time situations. They can execute that trade via our execute platform, all in one workflow. And we’ve really seen the usage of that grow over time with over 150,000 external institutional clients coming to the platform. And that really is because it connects those workflows into their daily routines and enables them to make those quick decisions.
Jo Gallagher Earlier as well, you mentioned customization. How important is that personalized aspect to the buy side?
Marie Linehan As markets continue to electronify and the breadth of the products that we offer increase, relevancy is a real differentiator and personalization is critical to this. With JP Morgan Markets, we use behavioral insights to learn about client behaviors and then dynamically deliver the right content, data, and services at the right time in the right way. Whether it’s over API, web, desktop, or mobile, the platform is adaptive. And it learns and evolves to client needs so that we can tailor that experience to our clients. In a world overwhelmed with content and data, personalization isn’t just helpful, it really is essential.
Jo Gallagher So what’s next. How do you plan to build out J.P. Morgan’s Markets platform further?
Marie Linehan Yes. So there are two main areas of focus. We’re looking to scale the intelligence of the platform by continuing the usage of tools such as large language models, AI search and recommendations, and machine learning. These tools help our traders find content faster, more intuitively, and with greater accuracy. The second thing is continuing to build out more modular, integrated workflows so traders can really tailor the platform to how they want to use it. By interconnecting the full breadth of markets, whether that’s search, content, data, execution to post-trade, we are really delivering a unified digital platform experience. Our vision is very simple. Be the platform that connects every single step of the trade lifecycle from signal to settlement with intelligence at its core.
